Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure that removes hair follicles from a donor area of your body, known as the donor site, to a bald or receding hairline area of your body called the recipient site. The method is most commonly used to treat male pattern hair loss.
Hair transplants are normally performed on bald areas of the head. You’ll find that most of those who undergo hair transplant surgery are men, and many women opt for the procedure when they experience baldness that occurs in the front of their heads. In addition, the procedure may be used in the case of female pattern baldness as well. Hair transplantation surgery is usually performed on adults with male pattern baldness or on children with female pattern baldness and is generally not considered cosmetic surgery. Hair transplants work by using artificial hair to replace lost hair. This hair is taken from your own body and is implanted into the bald area where you would like to see new hair growth.
Hair Transplantation Surgery
When choosing the right donor site, the surgeon must decide on the specific place where the bald area should be, what proportion of the scalp in the bald area should encompass and what color and texture of hair you desire. The size of the donor area and its location are extremely important. The location of the bald spot also needs to be evaluated. There are two common methods that are used in the procedure; it is either the frontal or the temporal scalp.
The frontal scalp is a more common method where the frontal scalp is shaved in order to allow room for the graft. In this method, the donor area must be shaved so that the surgeon can access the donor site from all directions, including the back of the head and onto the head.
The temporal scalp method works in that the frontal scalp is shaved as a whole so that the surgeon will have more room to maneuver when performing hair transplantation. Another variation of this method of hair transplantation involves the anterior scalp, where the donor is transplanted under the top of the head, in the armpit.
Although the frontal and the temporal scalp methods of hair transplantation are commonly used, there are other surgical techniques available that can be used depending on what part of the scalp is being affected. One such method is called micrografting and it works by inserting a very small portion of the donor area under the skin near the bald spot.
Micro grafting is not recommended for those who have baldness because it may cause further problems, such as thinning of the scalp and hair loss. Other benefits of this type of hair transplantation are that it doesn’t require the use of scalp anesthesia. or local anesthesia. Although it doesn’t use the entire scalp, micrografting takes only a small area of the head and leaves the remaining area untouched.
Since it leaves the bald spot untouched, there is a better chance of new hair growth being formed in this area. It also allows more blood to circulate which is very good for hair growth. Micro grafting has been found to work much better than traditional hair transplantation in terms of growing new hair.
