Sapphire FUE and DHI techniques are among the methods that should be investigated meticulously during the period when patients are considering hair transplantation. Often, just before the operation, people are interested in and frequently ask search engines about the differences between Sapphire FUE and DHI methods.
What are the techniques used in hair transplantation?
The Fue technique is actually the general name of the hair follicle extraction process from the donor area. Names are made according to the tools used in hair transplantation and opening the hair channels. (FUE: follicular unit extraction, FU: follicular unit, DHI: direct hair implantation, Fut: follicular unit transplant)
Classically known FUE:
Hair channels are opened with an iron piece called Slit. (We don’t use this method. Hair channels are opened first, and then hair implantation is done one by one.)
Sapphire FUE:
It is named this way because the channeling process is performed with a sapphire blade. (Hair channels are opened first, and then hair implantation is done one by one.) If we use sapphire blade for incision name will be Sapphire fue hair transplantation.
DHI:
Both channels are opened and hair implantation is performed at the same time with Choi-Pen.
FUT:
It is an old method where hair follicles are used by cutting from the donor area of the head. We do not use this method / we definitely do not apply this method.
If you pay attention, the technique called FUE is actually follicular unit extract. In other words, it would be more accurate to call it FU, but today it is known as FUE and it is said so.
In terms of its level of awareness, the FUE hair transplant technique is more preferred than the newly released DHI technique. However, the latest technology methods offered by the DHI method attract patients. When this is the case, patients are constantly indecisive before proceeding to the surgery stage and wonder what is the best method for them.
With a sapphire pen, a good surgeon (Dr. Caymaz) can give the desired angle and direction to the hair channels. The tip of the sapphire blade is already in the shape of a 3-dimensional triangle. It even has an angle.
There is not much difference in terms of the dimensions of the hair channels.
The hair follicle extraction process from the donor area is the same for the FUE and DHI techniques. This is a constantly stirred event. (We are using micro motor for extraction both technique)
The area of the hair transplantation channels opened by the Sapphire Fue technique is 0.525 mm2 (for 1,5), while the hair transplantation channels opened by DHI Technique are 0.54 mm2 – 1.29 mm2.
It is a method of hair transplantation performed with sapphire fue hair transplantation method using special tools with sapphire tips. Sapphire blades allowed smaller channels to be opened compared to steel blades, causing a positive effect on the healing process and more density. Besides, the tips used in the sapphire fue technique do not lose their sharpness. However, what are the differences between the DHI method and Safir FUE?What are the Differences between Sapphire FUE Technique and DHI Method?
- The first striking difference between FUE and DHI methods is that the way they are administered to patients is different. The amount of hair to be transplanted to patients is provided by these methods and varies on each patient. With the Sapphire FUE technique, approximately 5000-6000 grafts are transplanted per session, while with the DHI technique, 1500-3500 grafts can be transplanted per session.
- Since the Sapphire Fue technique is newer and more technological than the DHI technique, the healing process is somewhat shorter.
- The operation performed with the FUE technique allows the patients to be treated in a larger transplantation area. Although the DHI technique is a fast and less troublesome application, it is not considered suitable for hair transplantation in large areas. However, Sapphire FUE operation is a more suitable technique than the DHI method for dense transplantation.
- During the Sapphire FUE method, all of the patient’s hair must be shaved. (It depends patient to patient. Some patient can be unshaven operation with Sapphire Fue technique too. We have to see your photos.) However, in the DHI method, it will be sufficient to shave only the area of the patient to be treated. (We must to shave donor area too)
- Since the DHI application requires the choi pen technology equipment and a crowded surgeon group, it is slightly higher in cost compared to the FUE method. FUE operations can be applied to patients at more affordable costs.
- The Sapphire FUE technique is completed within 6-8 hours depending on the patient’s operation area, but the DHI method is a slightly longer procedure.
Why we are using 1,5 mm Sapphire Blade and 0,8 mm punch?
When extracting with a micro motor , diameter punch is used. It is 0.8 mm diameter punch that we usually use. Your hair follicles can contain 2-4 hairs. Therefore, we can extraction double and triple grafts with 0.8 diameter. If 0,6 diameter is used, it may not be possible to extraction them and hair follicles may be damaged. Our aim is to be able to extract hair without damaging the follicles. If your hair follicles are damaged in some way, your operation will go as well as you want. Let your donor area look beautiful after as many operations as you want. Your implanted damaged grafts will not come out.
According to our experience, we use 1.5 mm sapphire blade as hair transplantation can be done easily without damaging the hair follicles.
